Let's get some jobs. Home-grown American jobs. Maybe making American products. Keeping our money and jobs here in America instead of shipping them overseas. That seems like a no-brainer, right?
There are households today that refuse to buy products made in China. Maybe the presence of lead paint in toys scares them off (it should!). Maybe they think products made in China are the result of sweat shops (many are). Maybe they've experienced that products made in China are inferior in quality (many are). Maybe they think the balance of trade is unfair to Americans (it is).
On the other hand, some households always look for the best bargains, regardless of where they were made. They can buy more with less money. In this recession, where unemployment and job security have affected people so dramatically, families are cutting back on their expenses.
Which side do you take? Do you feel multinational corporations are pro-American or pro-profit?
Do you feel multinational corporations are paying their "fair share" of taxes (I don't)? BP recently announced they were writing off $10 billion they paid out for the Gulf Spill against their tax bill as a deduction. Perfectly legal, but is there something wrong with that picture?
ReplyDeleteSince BP has been using dispersants right from the beginning AND under-estimating the amount of oil flow from their underwater pipe, they can now (DECEPTIVELY) claim there is VERY LITTLE OIL THAT ACTUALLY SPILLED SINCE YOU CAN'T SEE MUCH OIL ON THE SURFACE. The dispersants make the big globs onto small globs, so they can't be measured either on the surface or when they eventually come to shore. THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGES THEY ARE PAYING IS A DIRECT RESULT OF HOW MUCH THEY RELEASED into the Gulf. If they can't be proven wrong, the lawyers on the behalf of the American coastline CAN'T GET AS MUCH MONEY FROM BP AS THEY COULD IF THERE WAS AN ACCURATE NUMBER. That's OBVIOUSLY WRONG, but it's LEGAL. I think BP SHOULD PAY FOR EVERY DROP OF OIL THEY SPILLED. What do you think?
